Instagram post 17860677076609864 Excited to decorate our tree with these dried citrus ornaments ♥️ they are super easy to make, and just as easy to compost at the end of the season 🌲
I'm tempted to try my hand at a popcorn garland but likely won't this year (I'll wait until I have babies old enough to handle that one for me 😉). Do you DIY your Christmas decor? What are some other easy projects worth trying?

Instagram post 18095728411129548 This is a really simple, random baby/toddler mom tip that I learned from @navygraceblog - I shared it on my stories yesterday but it has improved my diaper changing life so much that I think it bears repeating here.

If you have a wiggly baby/toddler still in diapers and you're frustrated by a slippery changing pad, then stop what you're doing and grab yourself some of this shelf liner material. Cut it to size and place it underneath the changing pad to make it less slippery. The end.

After months of hunching over our low guest bed (where we had been using our changing pad because of the danger-factor of active diaper changes) like a dummy, now I can stand up straight for diaper changes again. What a world! #thelittlethings

Lmk if I am the only one that took 16 months to discover this trick, or if you're in the same camp 🤯

Instagram post 18033552100224762 20 more days... I was feeling inspired by @alysonsimplygrows to create a different type of advent this year for my husband and I. I took some time this week to write 5-10 minute activities for he and I to complete together after laying Ford down for bed. I put one activity in each daily slot in this @target felted advent calendar.

I wrote down things like:
- play gin rummy
- meditate for 10 minutes
- make a warm drink recipe to share
- light our fireplace
- read our books for 15 minutes
- write 5 things we're grateful for and share
- write a letter/email & send to a friend

Etc... During such a busy season, it felt like a nice idea to carve out some intentional "slow" time together. As Ford grows up, I hope to include him (and future babies!) in this tradition too. My opinion has always been that gifted experiences > objects so this type of an advent feels very right to me.

What holiday traditions do you love or plan to start with your family?

Instagram post 17950888384305332 Recently left my full time job and started working from home on freelance projects (and this blog!) - my new flexible schedule has enabled me to be a better wife and mom (and person?). I feel extremely blessed and privileged to be in this situation during this season of my life.

With that said, now that I depend so heavily on our home computer, I am doing whatever I can to keep it in great shape. I recently gave it a good clean so I thought I'd share how:

1. clear crumbs and dust from the keyboard with a rechargeable duster (those compressed air cans make me nervous...)
2. spray cleaning solution (I use 1 part distilled water with 1 part isopropyl rubbing alcohol) on a microfiber cloth
3. wipe down every surface of my laptop - the screen, keys, and even the charging cable

I'll leave you with this: If you ever work in a public space like a coffee shop and your charging cable has sat on the floor... (🤢) please do yourself a favor and wipe it down today. That's all.

Instagram post 17937671692321885 I think we're going for it this year and getting ourselves a Christmas tree 🎄 We haven't had a tree for the last handful of years for a variety of reasons (out of town for holidays, overwhelmed with a new baby).

Each year we went tree-less I felt a sense of moral relief about refusing to cut a tree or invest in a plastic version that would eventually end up in a landfill.

But this holiday season I am feeling particularly sentimental (#motherhood) and we have decided to decorate with a tree. We are choosing to purchase a real tree. After a lot of research on the pros and cons of real vs fake, my take is that real trees are a renewable resource, and if recycled properly can be turned into wood chips for local landscaping projects. 🌲

With that said, if you already have a fake tree don't feel guilty! The best thing you can do is re-use that tree for as many years as possible.

If you want to learn more about the pros and cons of Christmas trees, I wrote a post summarizing everything I learned. It can be found via the link in my profile.

Real or fake, tree or no tree, I wish everyone the merriest of holiday seasons this year 🎄⛄🦌

Instagram post 17941865284312127 My favorite part of drinking out of a Ball jar? The measurement lines!!!

Ball jars have lines on the sides that denote number of cups and number of ounces - this means I know exactly how many ounces of water I drink each day when I use a jar as my drinking glass/water bottle.

Bonus wider mouth means it's easy to add things like lemon (can you see the seeds at the bottom?) or mint. Also love that these are machine washable, can be used to store bulk dry food (among many other things), and I could go on and on...

Anyhow, do you track your daily water intake? Is there anything else that you like to track? I love any excuse for a good tracking sheet ♥️

Instagram post 17930647609328197 Have you heard of a Cuban mop? It's more or less the original (#ecofriendly) Swiffer! It's just two wooden dowels fastened together in a T-shape. To use, you wrap the base with a cleaning towel and go to town on your floors.

Works crazy well - I have been using mine for a number of weeks and love how easy it is to use. I mop my floors so much more now! (probably similar to how it feels when folks invest in a stick vacuum...)

It's also only around $20 to buy one on Amazon (linked in my "Cleaning" story highlight if you're interested). Do you have a mop you love? Or are you already on the Cuban mop train?

Instagram post 18087524635127511 A small peak at my 17 month old's kitchen shelf. I have been experimenting with Montessori-inspired toddler spaces in our home and this is one area where we have been testing a number of configurations.

SELF SERVE WATER STATION: I hacked a little "stand" by using an old tupperware container upside down as the base, then a small baking tray to catch spills underneath. To "stabilize" the stand I cut small squares out of un-used shelf liner. These keep the tupperware from sliding around too much... even so, I only let F play with this while supervised, if I'm not right there I put the water on a higher shelf. That said, this is his favorite station to play with BY FAR.

WOODEN BOX + KIDS SILVERWARE: I bought a set of 18/10 stainless steel children's silverware. It looks just like our adult set, but child-sized! F likes to practice grabbing these to set his own table, but he LOVES putting them away after they have been cleaned in the dishwasher.

CLEANING TOWEL: Few things bring me more joy than watching F grab this little towel to mop up his spills (especially when playing with the water station). He says, "uh-oh" and grabs the towel, wipes the water, then puts it right back where he found it on the shelf.

SPONGES: I have a little basket with a small scrub brush, sponges cut in half (to better fit his little hands) and a squeegee. He uses the sponges to wipe off his placemat after meals, the scrub brush he uses to help me clean veggies, and the squeegee he uses to clean windows (with the purple microfiber and a little spray bottle).

Just about all of these items can be purchased via Amazon. If you're interested in a specific item, I linked them in my "kids" story highlight.

Instagram post 17851563508693384 Some of the best kids toys are the silliest, am I right? I saw this little DIY "puzzle" idea on @bringingupbabe
I had all of the necessary pieces so I spent 5 minutes chopping one end off of q-tips and poking holes into our used egg carton. My 17 month old has been playing with this thing for weeks!

Now I'm feeling inspired to find more creative up-cycled "toy" ideas. If you have any, please share! ♥️🧮🪀🧸
